SIPGOOD : WATER less boring

COMPANY SIZE

SIPGOOD, a London based beverage manufacturer, is on a mission to change the beverage industry for the better. In partnership with CarbonBright, SIPGOOD conducted a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study focused on their Natural Infusion Drops to ensure their environmental claims are backed by scientific data.

INTRODUCTION
One million plastic bottles are purchased every minute globally, according to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). This figure doesn’t even account for the billions of aluminum cans or glass bottles produced annually. As the flavored water industry continues to grow, the resulting waste from bottles and cans represents a significant challenge, compounded by low recycling rates (9% globally).
SIPGOOD’s mission is to reduce the environmental impact of the beverages industry, creating a solution that is better for both people and the planet. A single SIPGOOD Natural Infusion Drop turns any bottle of water into a healthy, tasty soft drink. No added sugar or artificial sweeteners, all-natural fruit flavors & plant extracts, and 450 mg of electrolytes and vitamins.
CHALLENGE
The average soft drink is more than 95% water. On top of that, cans and bottles are environmentally taxing from raw material extraction to end-of-life disposal. In creating an innovative new product, SIPGOOD wants to reduce the environmental impact of the beverages industry. To do that, they need a comprehensive understanding of their product’s environmental impact from cradle-to-grave.
SIPGOOD wanted to know how a Natural Infusion Drop compared to soda in a PET plastic bottle or aluminum can, as well as identify areas of improvement in their supply chain to lessen their environmental impact. SIPGOOD needed a solution to be transparent in their sustainability claims, necessitating accurate measurement and assessment of the life cycle emissions of their product.
SOLUTION: USE CARBONBRIGHT’S AI-DRIVEN PLATFORM TO AUTOMATE PRODUCT LCA’S
Using CarbonBright’s AI-driven platform, SIPGOOD conducted a thorough Life Cycle Assessment on their Natural Infusion Drops. This analysis examined emissions from raw material extraction to end-of-life disposal, allowing SIPGOOD to evaluate their product’s environmental footprint with greater precision and accuracy than traditional approaches that require more time, effort, and resources.
RESULTS
The results of the LCA data showed that SIPGOOD Natural Infusion Drops emitted up to 15x less CO2 than a 500 ml bottle of soda and up to 22x less CO2 than a canned beverage[1]. In fact, the CO2 savings from drinking two SIPGOOD Natural Infusion Drops vs two bottled beverages is equivalent to powering an entire refrigerator for one and a half days.
Packaging impact was also substantial, with SIPGOOD emitting 98% less CO2 equivalent linked to packaging compared to a 500 ml plastic bottle. The analysis allows SIPGOOD to communicate sustainability claims with reliable, data-backed insights to stakeholders as well as identify opportunities for further improvement across their supply chain.
SIPGOOD’s collaboration with CarbonBright underscores the importance of innovative solutions in the Consumer Packaged Goods Industry. By leveraging CarbonBright’s platform, SIPGOOD streamlined their efforts to offer sustainable alternatives. Through real-time emissions calculation, credible decarbonization communication facilitation, and identification of opportunities for emission reduction, SIPGOOD is empowered to make informed decisions towards a more sustainable future.
